A phrase that, on reflection, is incorrect - obviously, it would properly be “Six on one, half a dozen the other” or something like that, signifying equality or at least the lack of a meaningful difference. The misunderstanding likely comes from being introduced to the phrase via R.E.M.’s Swan Swan H, due to Michael Stipe’s cadence.
